More about Dr. Nonie Coutts Veterinary Surgery

Established in 1981, Dr Nonie Coutts is proud to have been bringing the highest level of veterinary expertise to Bahrain for over 37 years.

Our mission is to provide the best quality of care for your pets, using modern equipment and the latest techniques.

PREVENTIVE MEDICINE
Vaccinations, microchipping and worming can be performed at both surgeries during normal consulting hours.

INTERNAL MEDICINE
Simple cases can be diagnosed and treated during consults. We can hospitalize and work up more complex medicine cases and provide treatment if needed.

SURGERY
Surgeries are performed at the Manama branch. Simple surgical procedures can be carried out in the Saar Branch too. All routine procedures are available here. We can also do more complex soft tissue and orthopaedic surgeries including plating, pinning and joint surgeries. However we do not undertake spinal surgery but have access to a neurologist for second opinions and complex cases and we can refer if necessary to Abu Dhabi.

EMERGENCY
We offer 24 hour emergency cover to pets of our clients. It is very important to ring the main surgery so we can be prepared. If it is after hours you will hear an answering phone message with a mobile number to ring. Please note that this number is for emergencies only not for general inquiries.
After hour fees apply.

OPHTALMOLOGY
We perform many ocular surgeries at this hospital and also have access to an ophthalmology specialist for second opinion or complex cases.

RADIOLOGY AND ULTRASOUND
We have a digital x-ray machine and ultrasound. For most x-rays animal will need sedation to get the right positioning and to prevent them from moving. In compliant animals ultrasound can be done without sedation. We use ultrasound to diagnose intra-abdominal pathology and pregnancy.

DENTISTRY
We have a dental scaler and polisher for routine dentals. Animals are anesthetized to have their teeth cleaned. We can also perform more complex dental procedures eg. teeth extractions, root abscesses and surgery on gums and jaws using dedicated pneumatic dental equipment.

PATHOLOGY
We have the facilities to do in house biochemistry, haematology, cultures and urine analysis. Animals have to be starved for most blood tests. For biopsies we use a local pathology laboratory. For more complex cases we send samples overseas.

AVIAN AND EXOTICS MEDICINE AND SURGERY
We routinely treat birds and reptiles as well as "small furries" such as rabbits, hamsters and ferrets. Our vets also have contact with other exotic experts around the world and are able to treat virtually any other exotic animal except monkeys and other primates. It is actually illegal to own primates in Bahrain and we do not encourage the keeping of them as pets due to the potential health risks to humans.

GROOMING
We groom both cats and dogs. For animals that are nervous we provide sedation. Animals are also bathed. We can either clip off hair or groom in a style cut, as the owner wishes. Very matted hair coats may have to be shaved as it is too uncomfortable for the animal to groom out the knots. The hair regrows quickly.
