IPS is a joint venture between IIHC, which is a subsidiary of Hutchison Port Holdings, and The Maritime Company For Navigation (TMC).

Hutchison Port Holdings (HPH) is an independent port investor, developer and operator with global interests in Asia, Africa, Europe and the Americas.

The Maritime Co. for Navigation (TMC) is a Saudi company established in Riyadh and has its own branches and agencies all over the world. The company has the ability to handle any type of air, sea and land cargo shipment from and to any place around the world.

In July 1997, IPS was awarded the contract for the management, operation and maintenance of the Container Terminal, the Reefer Cargo Facilities, the RORO Terminal, the Rail Terminal and the Container Freight Station in King Abdul Aziz Port, Dammam.

The Saudi Arabian Port Authority formally turned over the facilities to IPS on 20th December, 1997, for a period of ten years.

In March 2004, contract extension has been approved giving IPS additional 10 years in managing Dammam Container Terminal, up to August 2017.
